Hi welcome to my website, I would like to introduce myself my name is Susan Bosveld-Bowyer owner of the Bowyer Massage Clinic in Comox. I moved to the Comox Valley from Nelson with my family almost 10 years ago. I have been a Registered Massage Therapist for over 31 yrs receiving my training at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Sutton, Ontario. I have practised massage in many different settings. I have worked Chiropractic Clinics, in a Hot Springs Resort, a Spa for the ‘Rich and Famous’, on the Cruise Ships, as well as 5 yrs. in the Netherlands. I have also owned and worked in a number of Massage Therapy Clinics, where I treated a sports injuries, ICBC injuries as well as acute and chronic conditions. I love what I do and have enjoyed much success and feedback over the years.
I prefer to book longer treatment times for my clients, one hour is most common. This allows me to feel satisfied that I have done a thorough job. I book 15 minutes of my own time between appointments so that no one feels rushed. That's one of the beauties of my profession, there is little or no stress...everyone is happy to see me and happier by the time they leave!
My style has evolved over the years but I have mostly become known for my deep tissue work satisfying those who just can’t get a deep enough treatment, it is said I have wicked elbows! However, we all need different pressure on different days and I am sensitive to providing the pressure that will be right for you! I am quite intuitive but also rely on the feed back of the client to ensure that the treatment is right for you. I am fortunately strong and have lots of stamina. ( I am sure the fact that I have been having massage since I was 15 yrs old contributes). People have often described my style as ‘very dynamic’ or ‘active’ It has just evolved over the years and is quite eclectic. It a combination of Swedish massage, Trigger point work, Resisted Range of Motion, Muscle Energy (an osteopathic technique for alignment) as well as just giving the massage the way I would want one!!! Though I see more people for therapeutic conditions, I do enjoy sending clients into ’La La land‘ during a soothing relaxation massage. With good feedback, I really just like to give the person what the need on that given day.
In March of 2010, I decided to combine forces with other healthcare professionals and began working out of the Aurora Health Center on Comox Avenue, Tuesdays and Thursdays. This gave me a chance to network, share patients and knowledge with both the chiropractor, the two acupuncturists/Chinese medicine practitioners and the Naturopath/Bowen Therapist that work in the clinic. This was a one stop shop if you will.
October of 2012, when the clinic was closed. I decided to move my clinic back to my home full time. This suited my clients and my self well.
I am a firm believer in referring my clients to other local health professionals if I feel their conditions would benefit. I have found time and time again that a massage before an adjustment helps to ensure that the soft tissues are supple, allowing for a more effective longer lasting spinal adjustment, as well I can personally testify to the incredible results of Acupuncture and Massage combined. My goal is to get my patient back to full function as quickly as possible and help educate them so they can stay there and so I don't hesitate to recommend a patient to the therapy or combination there of which I feel will best benefit them. Prevention and knowlege are the key! Combine the massage with some good home care and the right attitude... and you have a great recipe for good health!!
